The Stolen Button

I wrote The Stolen Button as an animation script many years ago when I was a film student. The script was overly ambitious (as all film student scripts should be!). I knew it wasn’t feasible to produce as a film, but the story stuck with me. Many years later, in my ADHD-induced boredom, probably when I was meant to be working on another project, I wrote down the bones of The Stolen Button as a picture book text. I shopped it around to a few Australian publishers. Their feedback was that the story was too complex for a picture book.

So what else was an impulsive, ADHD writer seeking her next dopamine hit meant to do?

Obviously, I started my own publishing company, pitched The Stolen Button idea to my super-talented artist friend Leila Honari, and we funded the project through Kickstarter. We had a blast making the picture book.

Sadly, my publishing empire never took off. The Stolen Button is no longer distributed in brick-and-mortar bookshops. Setting up an online shop through this website is on my to-do-list but I’m not pressuring myself because I’m coming to terms with my tendency to overcommit, then work until I burn out. However, if you have a burning desire to purchase a copy of The Stolen Button, send me a private message. (It costs AUS$25 plus shipping)
