donald doing’s house of verbs
By Marianna Shek, Cody McGrath and Anna Pan
Everybody knew Donald Doing’s House of Verbs was the place to go to look for action. He had music boxes for dancing, hat boxes for sashaying and treasure chests for buccaneering. But when little Nora Noisler asks for his help, Donald has to think outside the box to come up with a solution.
Recommended for children 5 – 8 years
Picture book, 32 pages plus educational activities
I literally had a dream about an eccentric Willy Wonkaesque character who owned a verb shop. In the dream, boxes of verbs were jumping, leaping and generally terrorising the shoppers while the Willy Wonka-esque character tried to help them find the correct verb box to solve their problems.
When I woke up, I decided to turn my dream into a picture book. Did I have any experience writing, reading or publishing picture books?
No, I did not.
Did I do it anyway?
Hell, yes! And I had a ball. I was lucky enough to work with two talented artists, Cody McGrath and Anna Pan. After all these years, I still love their illustration style. I no longer actively sell this picture book but you can probably still order copies from some online bookshops…
